- patient inhales to total lung capacity
- blows out hard and fast to residual volume
- inhales to total lung capacity
- Repeat test
- Record data
Tips
- Prepare equipment according to standards set by the American Thoracic Society or European Respiratory Society
- Gather the following data from the test subject:
- age
- height
- weight
- any relevant history and/or purpose of the test
- Ensure a tight seal around the mouthpiece
